Education Assistance & Scholarships

Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund
The Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund provides education assistance for postsecondary study to the financially needy dependents of those killed or permanently disabled as a result of the terrorist attacks. The Fund was created by Citizens' Scholarship Foundation of America (CSFA), the nation's largest nonprofit administrator of private scholarship programs, and the Lumina Foundation for Education, a private foundation.

Heroes of New York Scholarship Foundation
In recognition of the brave men and women who worked tirelessly to help others following the horrific events of September 11th, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR) has established the "Heroes of New York Scholarship Foundation."

September 11th Children's Fund
The September 11, 2001 Children's Fund provides financial support through scholarships, apprenticeships, internships, work-study programs, and work training programs to the children directly affected by the terrorist act at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in Pennsylvania (United Airline Flight 93).

Silver Shield Foundation
The Silver Shield helps fund the college education of children of New York-area police officers and firefighters who have lost a parent in the line of duty. Prior to the World Trade Center tragedy, there were 85 children covered under the Silver Shield umbrella. The number of children now totals over 1,000.
