Since the first case was reported in 1981, AIDS has become a global epidemic. Caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), AIDS gradually weakens the immune system, destroying the body's ability to fight infections and some types of cancer. While there are known risk factors, no group is immune: HIV/AIDS affects young and old, men and women, black, white and Hispanic alike. Use the links below to find more information about prevention, diagnosis and treatment of HIV/AIDS.
