Alzheimer's Disease

More than 4 million American seniors have Alzheimer's, the most common form of dementia. That number is expected to triple in the next 20 years as more people live into their 80s and 90s. As yet, there is no cure, but there are drugs that can improve mental abilities in some patients with mild Alzheimer's. Researchers have discovered several genes associated with Alzheimer's, and scientists continue to define subgroups of dementias and their distinguishing characteristics in the hopes of refining treatments.
