Who pays for the donation processing fees?

As part of its mission to encourage online giving, Network for Good had been paying 100% of the costs associated with processing and distributing charitable donations. As we've grown dramatically, we can no longer pay these costs in their entirety. As of August 1, 2003, we began passing along modest fees to nonprofits receiving donations through our Giving System; these fees amount to 3% of the total donation and are deducted before funds are distributed to the nonprofit.

We are also asking donors to contribute an additional $3.00 to Network for Good when they proceed through our donation process. Donors who choose to contribute the $3.00 will be helping Network for Good to cover the program costs associated with providing online fundraising and donation tools and services to thousands of nonprofits. Because Network for Good is a charity, your donation to cover these processing costs is tax-deductible.

You may also choose to not cover these costs by simply un-clicking the "check box" during the donation billing process.

Network for Good has offered this option as a way for donors to show their support for online giving. Credit card contributions via the Internet remain the cheapest way for nonprofits to receive donations; they are less expensive than both checks by mail and credit card contributions made over the phone. By covering the transaction costs of donations, donors can know they are helping to reduce operating costs, saving charitable dollars, and supporting Network for Good's mission to increase online giving.
